Hi guys!
So several of you have been asking me where I am going to college this fall, and I am super excited to announce my decision today! With my high school graduation in 2 days, I thought now would be the perfect time!
Alright, I’m going to build the anticipation a bit as I explain why I chose where I did.
So I heard about my college sophomore year and then I started researching it the middle of junior year. I realized that it had everything I was searching for in a college- research opportunities for undergraduates, rigorous education, small school, liberal arts, and in the south of course! I continued my research and then decided to go on a tour spring break of junior year. The college also had opportunities that were unparalleled: fantastic study abroad programs, specific research, Greek life, and more. It also had 4-year residential living on campus, which was something I didn’t realize I wanted until I began the search process. As soon as I arrived on campus, I knew I was meant to be here. It was picture perfect- it literally looked like what you dream of when you think about college. Beautiful trees and fountains lined the campus, as well as a lake with a Bell Tower. But that’s not the main reason I chose this school. Everyone was genuinely nice and helpful as we toured. They answered all my questions and gave me the impression that they wanted you here, not the other way around. I realized that I loved that type of environment- one that felt welcoming and familiar. Many people also describe that this college has a true family and home feeling, which is also something I really wanted. I got that “feeling” everyone talks about. I knew this was where I needed to be.
After deciding that this was my top choice, I researched some opportunities for rising seniors. I found a scholarship for rising seniors that are interested in the college, which I highly recommend applying for if your top choice college offers it. I can explain it more in another post, but it basically helps with acceptance into the college. I also signed up for a summer program somewhat relating to my major. I had such a great time! I met so many wonderful people and all the current students sounded so genuinely in love and happy with the college. It made me realize that if these people are so passionate about their school, then it definitely is doing something right and I want to join.
I toured several other colleges over the course of the spring break and then into fall break, but this college was still number one. I applied Early Action, which is basically Early decision but not binding. I needed to receive a certain amount of scholarships in order to attend.
December 20, I received my official acceptance into the college and I was ecstatic! Everything had fallen into place- I got the money I needed and was beginning to meet people on group chats and Facebook. (even though the group chats got a little weird sometimes). I started to worry about the types of students who would be at the college, but my worries faded when I attended an Accepted Students Day.
At the Accepted Students Day, I was over the moon the entire day. I knew I had made the right choice. I met some super sweet girls who have similar interests as mine, so I know I will fit right in. My worries have faded as I have kept in contact with these girls as well as reach out to current students at the college. At the end of the day, alumni talked about their experience. These individuals were highly successful, and I knew that this school would help me achieve my goals. After the alumni session, the director of the day talked about our graduation in four years. I got nostalgic- even though I haven’t even started college there! I knew that if I felt that way, then this place was the right college. I am super excited to attend and am already collecting dorm room decor!

FURMAN UNIVERSITY!!
You all have no idea how excited I am to finally announce this! I love Furman so much (even though I’m not a student yet!) and I cannot wait to share my experience with you all. There are several other bloggers who were Furman students- some well known ones are Prep Avenue and Prep In Your Step. I also met an instagrammer, Evelyn from Sweet Tea Magnolia Trees when I went to accepted students day. So the blogging world has probably heard of Furman before, but I will continue to let y’all into a glimpse of life at Furman.
I plan to major in psychology with either a minor in French or neuroscience. I also want to do Greek life and do college tours.
