Hello hello!
Fall weather has finally ushered in (for the most part) in the South, and I am ready to start pulling out some of my favorite fall pieces. Fall is all about layering, so if you are needing a refresh in your fall wardrobe, consider starting with the layers I recommend. I used to be very basic with my fall wardrobe- an army green jacket or coat when it got cold, and alternating striped tees, chunky sweaters, jeans, and boots. But after studying abroad in Europe last fall (check out the pic above- that was me in Prague in November!) I’ve learned a couple things about layering properly for fall in a fashionable way. I wouldn’t call this post a capsule wardrobe by any means, but I definitely think you could make a capsule wardrobe out of the items I recommend. I’ve even thrown in some outfit ideas with the pieces I put together!
// tops //
The obvious first place to begin! First off, I recommend investing in a statement button up or billowy sleeve white blouse. I have one that I LOVE from Impeccable Pig from a few seasons ago, but I think any type of button up or balloon sleeve white blouse would be great! Next, add in some thin sweaters/pullovers/and long sleeve shirts. I love striped boat neck shirts as well as a few random layers such as the ones I included here.
// sweaters //
The most-worn item for me in the fall are sweaters. I think every girl needs to invest in a nice white/cream turtleneck sweater of some kind, a simple camel colored sweater for layering, and a statement sleeve sweater. These sweaters are a bit unique- I really like the camel one with the neck tie added in! I also love the puff sleeves on the second sweater I included- size down for sure in this one!
// outerwear //
This is where you really want to invest in some good pieces. I think everyone needs either a sweater-blazer or trench coat of some sort in a neutral tone. I like this one from J.Crew! It’ll look great layered over just about anything. Next, I added a casual blazer. I wore a plaid one in France a bit (pictured at the top) and it was great over sweaters to keep me warm! I also threw in a chunky camouflage sweater. Not necessarily outwear, but definitely invest in some chunky, more oversized sweaters that you can throw on over anything!
// pants //
You really can keep it simple with pants! I recommend a pair of statement pants (such as corduroy, flare jeans, etc.), a lighter wash boyfriend style jean, and black jeans
.
// dresses and skirts //
You absolutely NEED a corduroy skirt. I love wearing these with tights and boots- such a cute and classic look. I also recommend an animal print dress of some sort (can be worn casually or dressed up), as well as a black mini skirt.
// shoes //
Since I am still in college, my shoe recommendations serve for that age range. I recommend a pair of d’Orsay flats or loafers (I added a black pair that’s affordable!), and a pair of cap-toe flats. The cap-toe flat is so classic and very Parisian. I also recommend a pair of ankle booties that are comfortable but still dressy. These look great with any type of outfit- dresses, skirts, jeans, etc!
// accessories //
This is where I really like to get creative with my fall outfits! Hair pieces are totally perfect for fall. I recommend growing your headband collection- I added two super cute ones for you to check out! I also highly suggest investing in a scarf/poncho style wrap. I think these are perfect for layering over sweaters, and they look so classic. Add in some patterned tights for your skirts and dresses (I chose polka dot!) and some classic gold jewelry (such as chunky gold hoops or layered gold necklaces!)
