headband // dress- Maje (available on Poshmark, RTW, rental services, etc.)
As a headband-wearing gal, I have quite the extensive collection of headbands. My affinity for headbands started when I watched Gossip Girl (late in the game) during high school. I loved how Blair could turn any outfit into a girly and classic look by adding a pop of color with a headband. I started buying headbands after that, and while I didn’t wear them daily until junior year of college, I always loved how they looked on others. Now, I wear them anytime I know I have a long day of work ahead of me, when I want an extra feminine touch to an outfit, or when I want to go full on 1960s vibes. It truly is one of the only ways to get the hair out of my face and make my outfit feel complete.
As requested, I wanted to give a round-up of some of my favorites, where I look for headbands, and what headbands to avoid. I also have a Tik Tok here showing how I style them and rounding up a few of my favorites.
black padded headband // cream faux leather headband // patterned raffia headband // yellow gingham headband (also comes in a blue stripe) // blush pearl embellished headband //pearl headband // light pink padded (comes in different colors and thicknesses) // white padded headband // flat white headband // flat black headband

placement: In my Tik Tok I go in more specifically on how I put my headbands on. I don’t push back my hair- I keep my natural part and gently lift and place the headband over it. This way, my hair is out of my face but I am able to keep my part line which I find is more flattering on me than pushing my hair back like it’s in a ponytail. I’ll also do this method if I wear a headband while wearing a claw clip or a ponytail.
sandwiching: One of my best-kept styling secrets is the “sandwich” outfit method. This method basically theorizes that outfits look more put together if you have two items (one closer to the bottom of the outfit and one closer to the top of the outfit) that match. For me, this most often is a hair accessory and shoes, but other people use their bottoms, a purse, a pair of sunglasses, or jewelry. I will often wear a black headband with black shoes, or at least a black headband with a black skirt or pants. This rounds out the outfit and makes it seem more put together.
xoxo,
Madison
