The other day I randomly decided to make a trend forecast Tik Tok after seeing several on my for you page. It did surprisingly well (I got about 200 followers from it and almost 1000 likes!), so I figured I’d show the items I shared on that on my blog! I am not a trend forecaster by any means, but being on social media and browsing retailers constantly means I have sort of an idea of what trends will be “in” for each season.
I do want to note before jumping into this post that I am not an advocate for buying things just because it is on trend. I believe that trends are a main culprit of fast-fashion, and that dressing in trend is not necessarily a reflection of a good personal style. If you like something that is on trend and you can incorporate it into your style, that is fantastic. But it is important to form your own style on things you like because they make you feel good or happy, not because everyone else is buying it. I am so happy that many items predicted to be on trend for the fall already fall in my personal style (aka lots of old school preppy influences, gem tones, and retro-inspired pieces). But, I won’t stop wearing many of these items after their trendiness has died down. Aside from the occasional impulse buys of trendy items, I invest in items I know I can wear for years to come! (More on that topic in another blog post sometime this week)
first green dress // second green dress // polo sweater // blue polo dress
green exaggerated collar dress // white Peter Pan collar blouse // camel sweater vest
black and white sweater top
// emerald green //
I have seen a lot more green this past year, and I’m thinking we will be seeing even more of it in varying shades of emerald and peacock green. Many spring/summer 2021 runways featured emerald green for the spring, but it seems that this color will stick around for a while. The bright lime and summery green hues will transition to deeper peacocks and emeralds as the weather cools.
// polo collars //
For any preppy style lover, you will know that polos are one of the OG prep must-haves. We are seeing the polo reinvented into cashmere sweaters, dresses, and revamped blouses. I saw this style a lot last fall, and Gen-Z seems to be loving it for crop tops and Y2K inspired outfits. You will see this in a more classic and mundane style at major retailers like J.Crew, Target, Nordstrom, etc.
// exaggerated collars //
I am seeing tons of exaggerated and Peter Pan collars from my favorite retailers. Which means I think it will be saturated in many retailers come fall. I love the over exaggerated lacy collars- they are feminine, timeless, and a great touch to any outfit!
// sweater vests and tees //
If you’re on Tik Tok you have probably seen a Gen-Zer wearing a sweater vest at some point. With the Y2K era back in fashion (you won’t be catching me in it much though), sweater vests are becoming more mainstream again. You can go super trendy with an argyle sweater vest from places like Nasty Gal or Shein, or you can opt for a more timeless version of a vest or even sweater top from stores like Anthropologie and J.Crew.
I plan on doing a part 2 of fall trends on my Tik Tok, so you can watch it on my Tik Tok (theclassicmadison), my instagram reels (theclassicmadison), or stay tuned here!
xoxo,
Madison
