If you haven’t already picked out your Christmas Eve (or Christmas day) outfit- you are not alone! I am currently scavenging through my closet to find something festive for church and a Christmas Eve dinner at a relative’s house. I find that I always wait until the very last minute to find something for the occasion, but I’ve realized over the years that the best bet for an outfit is just reusing dressier items in revamped ways. Take this skirt and blouse for example. I bought this J.Crew plaid skirt a couple years ago, and the piece has had its share of Christmas occasions (but who remembers if you wore it before?). So I decided to pair the festive number with one of my favorite blouses of all time- this black and white Blair-Waldorf inspired piece. I’m sure many of you have similar items in your closet at this very moment- a plaid (or somewhat festive) skirt, a white dressy blouse (or simple button down!), tights, and some fabulous heels. No need to go out in the crazy traffic so close to Christmas and purchase a brand new outfit- I am almost positive you will have similar items to these in your closet!
I’m a sucker for pattern mixing, so I took these polka dot tights (which I very much need a new pair of- I ripped a seam the very first day I wore it!) which mesh perfectly with the plaid skirt. Simple black or navy tights would look amazing as well. If you want to go a little crazy, try pairing green or red tights with a more muted skirt!
A holiday outfit is not complete without red lipstick. I love this shade from Elf, a $1 lipstick (crazy, right??) titled “Posh”. This shade has been my go-to red for years. I love the blue-undertone reds because they whiten your teeth and go well with just about every skin tone.
I hope this post has given any of you still uncertain on your Christmas outfit some inspiration. Pulling old pieces from your closet is such an underrated notion but it’s so easy and you usually have the perfect items already there. What are you planning on wearing for your holiday plans?
